Bureau Veritas HSE co-operates with several American companies
Danish companies wishing to import a product from an American supplier often ask for our help. This task can be a great challenge as the American companies are not always willing to disclose information about their products. Recently we faced this challenge, and below we briefly describe how we handled it.
Confidence is the keyword
Full confidentiality is something we take for granted when we solve tasks for our customers. We have a very strict quality and confidentiality policy which is known to all our employees.
The case with the American supplier started with us signing a confidentiality agreement but this was not quite enough - despite several persistent attempts from the Danish importer and us.
We are located at each side of the world, so it is understandable that the Americans are cautious when we have not been in contact before.
Trust is at least as essential
How do you build a healthy and mutual trust? How could we prove to them that we were going to handle their information confidentially?
We contacted one of our customers in the US, with whom we have a great co-operation. We explained the situation to them, and we agreed they should be our ‘role model'. They sent the American supplier a letter and an excellent reference after which the two companies got in contact.
In this way the American supplier gained an insight into how we work and that we are a serious and respected company. This opened up to solving the task for all parties.
The Danish importer received the right documentation for this products after we had obtained the necessary information from sub-suppliers, and the American supplier received an order. As a spin-off we had a worth-while experience from which we as well as our future customers can profit.
