REACH at substance level

REACH operates at substance level. Everyhting in REACH therefore has to do with substances and NOT products. In principle REACH it is completely indifferent to REACH in which product the substance is used. The substance is the central part.

As we see it this fact - that the ingredients in the products are essential - is the largest challenge to companies within Denmark and Europe. Because this means that the only substances which can be registered are the substances mentioned in the data sheet the importer receives from his foreign manufacturer.

REACH applies to:

All substances, products and articles imported to the EU

Substances which are manufactured = "come into existence" within the EU.

REACH does not apply to "everything else"

Definition of substances, etc.

A substance: A pure chemical substance defined by a CAS/EINECS number.

A product: A mixture of chemical substances in which the chemical characteristics "make the product" - e.g. paint, cleaning agents.

An article: A "thing" with a function and which during this function releases chemical substances - e.g. pens, Wunderbaums.

Everything else: Objects which do not release substances - e.g. a rain coat, a table, a tractor.
